Adopting a Pet

The Alvin Animal Shelter does have an adoption program to qualified individuals for the animals captured and brought in. There is a background check on individuals interested in adopting. If you are a current pet owner, they ask that you bring in veterinarian certifications showing the animals in possession are current on vaccinations. There are also forms that need to be completed for adoption. The forms that need to be completed are listed here and may be downloaded for your convenience. The Pet Adoption Form will assist the animal shelter in determining what pet is best suited for your family. The Adoption Contract and Sterilization Agreement Form is an agreement stating you will be responsible for having the pet spayed or neutered on a certain date after adoption. It also states that you will be responsible for providing the City of Alvin's Animal Shelter a letter signed by a veterinarian verifying that the animal was neutered or spayed. The letter has to be turned in by the seventh (7) day after the date of sterilization. If you are interested in becoming a pet owner, please stop by our animal shelter and visit with one of our three humane officers. They will be able to assist you with any questions or concerns you may have.

Pet Requirements

Please be sure your pets have the proper tags such as a City license and rabies tag. These items are not only required, but also help in reuniting lost animals with their owners. The cost of a City license is $10.00. If your pet is lost, please contact your local animal shelter in person, since it is very difficult to identify a person's dog or cat by a telephone description
