The Legal Department is comprised of the City Attorney and two Paralegals.

The Legal Department provides legal advice and recommendations to the Mayor, City Council, City Manager and other City employees. The City Attorney conducts legal research and drafts ordinances, resolutions, contracts, real estate documents, and all forms of legal documents for the City. The City Attorney prosecutes cases in municipal court and works closely with the municipal court. The City Attorney represents the City in certain lawsuits and performs the related work. The City Attorney coordinates and monitors lawsuits and claims handled by outside attorneys and claims investigators.
