Owlvin, Recycling Mascot

The city’s curbside recycling program provides education, free bins, and collection schedules. Citizens may call 281-388-4393 or visit the coordinator’s office at 309 W. Sealy Street.

Alvin Recycles encourages all city residents to:
  • Preserve the environment for tomorrow and improve the quality of life in Alvin.
  • Recycle plastics 1 & 2, paper, household metals, card board, and newspaper.
  • Help reduce use of landfills, save energy and resources!
Guidelines for curbside collection:

Recycle bins need to be placed at curb by 7:00am on your recycle day. Recycle dates are determined by your address and will be the 1st and 3rd Thursday, 1st and 3rd Friday, the 2nd and 4th Thursday or the 2nd and 4th Friday.

NEWSPAPERS - papers should be tied with string or placed in a brown grocery sack and placed in or under the recycling bin. Do NOT include magazines, cardboard, paper with any type of adhesive, waxed paper, etc.

ALUMINUM BEVERAGE CANS – all aluminum beverage cans should be empty and rinsed clean.

PLASTIC BOTTLES – one of the following numbers should be on the bottom of the bottle: 1 or 2. Plastic soda bottles (PET) and plastic milk or water jugs (HDPE) are the two recyclable plastics. Caps should be removed and the bottles should be rinsed and reasonably clean before placing them in the bin. DO NOT include items such as plastic bags, Styrofoam containers, shipping “peanuts” or bubble paper.

TIN/BI-METAL CONTAINERS – containers such as fruit, vegetable and soup cans should be rinsed of all remaining food particles and reasonably clean. Lids should be removed and placed in the can and the opening “pinched” to keep the lid inside.

CARD BOARD – Must be broken down.

Through education and commitment, Alvin has more than doubled its efforts and tonnage within a year. Please join in and begin to help the city continue to reduce, reuse, and recycle for a better tomorrow.
