Winter Weather Updates

1/16/24 - 3:25 p.m. Update:  - GARBAGE COLLECTION CLARIFICATION - Monday/Tuesday recycle will be skipped this week and collected on regularly scheduled collection days next week.

Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday trash will be collected tomorrow through end of day Thursday. Please have everything out for collection by 6:00 a.m. and do not pull in if not collected Wednesday, we may need to run through Thursday. All other service days will run as scheduled.

 1/16/24 - 10:30 a.m. Update: - GARBAGE COLLECTION - Out of the concern for the safety of their team and others, Texas Pride Disposal has decided to cancel all garbage collection routes today (1/16). 

All routes that are not collected today will be collected on the next regularly scheduled collection day.

1/15/24 - 5:30 p.m. Update: All non-emergency city offices will be closed to the public on Tuesday, January 16th, due to the arctic cold front bringing freezing temperatures and precipitation to the area.  Essential city personnel will continue normal city services.

Garbage Collection - at the time of this post, Texas Pride has stated that garbage collection will begin tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m. Please continue to check the city website and social media accounts for up-to-date information.

1/11/24 - 8:30 p.m. Update: City emergency management is closely monitoring the situation and is planning for a winter weather event. While the timeline for the arrival of the Arctic front has been pushed forward to Sunday (1/14), Alvin is not expected to experience temperatures below freezing until early Monday (1/15) morning.

• Arctic Front Arrival: Sunday
• Freezing Temperatures Begin: Early Monday morning.
• Chance of Freezing Rain: Monday (20% probability)
• Wind Chill: 20s on Monday, 9°F (wind chill) on Tuesday morning, teens on Tuesday night

Please look out for your neighbors, plan to bring your pets and plants inside and prepare your home for freezing weather.
