Logo / Rebranding Initiative

In early 2021,  City Council and staff began the strategic planning process for the City of Alvin. The Strategic Plan was formally adopted by City Council in April 2021.  Staff began working the Plan and implementing the strategic goals identified through this document, one of which was revamping the city's marketing and rebranding initiative.

In preparation for the construction of a new city website, staff met with a vendor through the cooperative purchasing network to spearhead both the website redesign and the logo and rebranding initiative. This package also included the use of a new survey platform to gather desired input from the community.  This project was financed through funds received and allocated through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).

Staff began brainstorming sessions with the logo design team on the culture and history of the Alvin community. The team focused on the historic train depot, the current logo design/branding used by the Alvin CVB, and the possibility of creating a complementary concept to tie these together. The team also discussed the agricultural component of the community as well as the oak tree that is used in the city's current logo.  The design team drafted several black and white designs, consulted with staff, and then modified the designs from the feedback given. Staff then presented the logo designs to the community through the online engagement tool in the form of several community surveys. Each survey was placed on the city's website, pushed out through the city's social media platforms and emailed out to residents who were registered to receive electronic communication from the city.

  • Round 1 Survey - train concept.  Survey went live on 5/11/22 sent out to the community for input - survey was open for one (1) week.
  • Round 2 Survey agricultural concept.  Survey went live on 5/23/22 and sent out to the community for input - survey was open for one (1) week.
  • Round 3 Survey - city seals and the letter "A" for Alvin concept - Survey went live on 6/1/22 and sent out to the community for input - survey was open for one (1) week.
  • Round 4  Survey - top vote getters from rounds 1-3 - Survey went live on 6/8/22 and sent out to the community for input - survey was open for one (1) week.
  • Round 5 Survey - top vote getters from Round 4 AND logo designs submitted from local graphic artist's, the survey also included the current city logo - Survey went live on 6/21/22 and sent out to the community for input - survey was open for one (1) week.

On July 7, 2022 final designs were submitted to City Council for consideration.  City Council chose the design option B in the designs presented.

On July 21, 2022 City Council authorized option B of the color palettes submitted, which included a crimson red color scheme.

City staff is currently in the process of developing a city branding guide.  The new logo will be introduced on the city's social media sites in October 2022.  Logos throughout the city will be replaced as needed or when particular items have met the end of their life cycle.
